<< Return to Home Page 14 Feb 2011 GO Delivery! Meeting Focuses On Delivery to Skin Cells The GO Delivery! research grant progress meeting was just completed and was a fantastic scientific meeting focused on delivery of drugs to skin cells. This obstacle faces not only PC, but every skin disorder and is being studied by the top scientists and physicians in the world. Many exciting developments have taken place in the last 18 months through the GO Delivery grant and there is some promise although the technolgies are not yet reaching patients. In drug delivery, the first work is done in cells (in a culture in a laboratory). Next, if there is promise and positive results, the testing is done in small animals. There are hundreds of experiments being carried out to try to find success. When something has positive results in small animals, then the process of toxicity testing (to prove safety) and many other steps are involved to get to the point of testing in humans. Although we are not yet into the next clinical trial, a lot of work is being completed that is leading in that direction. Thank you to Roger Kaspar (TransDerm, Inc), Leonard Milstone (Yale University) and Chris Contag (Stanford University) for their tireless efforts on this GO Delivery Grant. Thanks also to many participants including members of the PC Medical and Scientific Board, W.H. Irwin McLean (University of Dundee) and Dennis Roop (University of Colorado). We appreciate so much the funding from the NIH/NIAMS and the participation of Dr. Carl Baker at this important meeting. If you have questions, or would like additional information on the meeting, please add a comment to the blog. |
