<< Return to Home Page 16 May 2011 PC1 and PC 2: These classifications are not supported by the data We continue to see patients and others refer to PC-1 and PC-2 as if there were two types of PC. This article by Prof. Irwin McLean gives a brief and important explanation of why a different classification system is needed based on the extensive data collected in the IPCRR. It is not correct that K6b and K17 are alike in PC patients or that K6a and K16 give the same PC signs. There are more than 60 different PC mutations now discovered. Some K6a patients are more similar to K17 patients in some features, etc. It is important to know your own specific mutation. Others may have PC -- but their PC may appear very different than your PC and may require different treatments. |
